A lyophilized vial ships as a freeze-dried powder that must be reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before use — see our reconstitution calculator for the mixing math. A prefilled cartridge arrives already in solution at a fixed concentration and loads directly into the pen, which is why it is the simpler format for repeat-dosing research protocols.
